  1. Well done on getting out Graham ........ Still no Cod but at least you have put in the hours, and a few decent whiting are OK. I thought about going out today as the sea was 0.3m @ 12.5 secs, so almost flat calm, however, the tides were not good for a timely recovery, so I gave it a miss.
  2. It depends whether you have any sheep on the boat ...........😁
  3. We dont get a whole lot of Bream here, but catching Wreck Pollock has to rank as one of my favourite pass times ..............
  4. He should have called his boat Battersea or kennel ...............🤣
  5. FFS, even Stevie wonder with his hands tied behind his back could catch them .................🤣
  6. That's good vslue............... if has an HDMI port, you can plug it into the TV, for some communal homework therapy 🤣
  7. You can still upgrade from 7 to 10 for free ....... I did daughters old laptop last week. There is a microsoft install tool for doing it, the only limiting factor is that you cant change major hardware, which is fine on a laptop.
  8. Nah, I don't do antifoul ! But, ISTR the reason was that antifoul of a few years ago was of a metallic content, which made the transducer less efficient. I would go with the megabyte suggestion. I see the boats come out here and outdrives / transducers seems to be a haven for mussels !
  9. It seems a lot of home schooling is based on google products ( it is here) so a chrome book maybe the way forward. However, from personal perspective I dislike Chrome ! If I was looking for a laptop today then it would need to be specc’ed with at least 256Gb of SSD ( hard drives are slow and very yesterday) minimum of 4GB Ram and probably an Intel i3 or i5 processor running Windows 10 Home edition. Many of the cheaper laptops only have 64 or 128Gb SSD and by the time the operating system is installed (win 10) it doesn't leave much free space. These laptops are designed mainly for cloud storage, which can be a bit limiting at times. I find laptops in general to be slow, but I am used to using a very fast desktop ( AMD Ryzen 12 core thread ripper, 2Tb SSD, 64Gb Ram).

    Snow 2

Two neighbours .................. One woman said to the other............... " Your Johnny is out there pissing in the snow" To which the other woman said ........... " that's OK, it is what boys do" The other woman replied .......... " But it is in my Mary's handwriting"
  11. I guess with both repairs being below the water line on a moored boat then you are going to need a very professional repair to have some peace of mind. Repair 'availability' might also be a factor from those that are most able to do a good job ? I am not convinced about hotter weather 'drying' the area, our weather in the UK is way too unreliable for that scenario.
  12. No, not in the slightest ............. only a pr1ck like you would do that to my good friend ...........🙄🤣🤣 I am suggesting it is an old injury that has come back to haunt ...........
  13. That damage looks to be too far away from the BT to be associated with it. I have fitted one before and in reality you bore a big hole and glass the tube into place from both sides and it ends up stronger than the hull itself. I am thinking that is an old collision injury that has come back to haunt due to a poor fix..............
  14. Pretty grim find there .......... as it has happened in two places, then I would suspect either poor filler or poor workmanship What is the estimated wallet damage in £K ?
  15. Er no, if did then it was badly written ! 😀 GRP is almost 'see through' for microwave signals, that is why GRP boats need a radar reflector to act as a 'target'. On a rag and stick the metal work of the mast will give a tiny reflection, and they often enhance this by raising an octahedral reflector (rain catcher) up the mast in foggy weather. Steel boats will show as a massive and excellent target ............. Radar 'scatter' is a natural phenomenon that occurs to all radio signal over a body of water and it due to mainly water reflections, wave reflections, and temperature inversion', but 'scatter' can have a negative effect when determining accurate direction in relation to true North.
  16. No blind spot from the console, as an obstruction it is way too small. You need to imagine the radar is not singular, it is 3D ............ so a full 360 Degree signal would be the classical doughnut shape.
  17. Had this on in the car today, the grandkids love it ...............
  18. LMAO ............. I think the picture of Neil Diamond gave it away ! Yeah agree ......... 0.5 out of 10 ........... we will have to come up with some sheep jokes !
  19. Yeah, but its great being old ............. we don't have to work to get paid
  20. These are Ok, just clip to your rod and then tension by hand as you wind ............. https://www.breakaway-tackle.co.uk/sea-fishing-accessories/Breakaway-line-loader
  21. You really need 3 reels to do it properly. However, it is not so important to get it ‘spoton’ on a boat reel. I tend to look at the spool rating for mono and then mathematically calculate how much braid would be required. On the charter specials I usually load on a little over a third of cheap mono and then about 300m of 28lb spectra. Using mono stops ‘spool slip’ where any tension on the braid can cause the spool to slip on the braid. I use a half blood for spool to mono and a FG or Yacatan for mono to braid. i don't like using tape because of the sticky residue. Also, I always have shit loads of mono kicking around !
  22. That looks a lot like a Bonwitco 320 or 375................
  23. Remember that your radar looks 360 degrees around the boat, so your ehcomax should either go above the radome or below the radome. On the RIB mine is down low and just above the tubes, but works absolutely fine ............. the ehcomax is classed as one of the best on the leisure / small professional market and does provide a good solid taget, therefore mounting position is probably less important than with octahedral (rain catchers\) type products. Here you can see mine on the stern starboard side.
  24. That will be due to the scatter effect of the RF signal, it would be made worse by any obstruction within the fresnel zone. As we all know the bearing is the angle between North and the target, and its accuracy depends upon how North is defined by the Radar unit. Most modern Radars will use GPS to define North or a gyro signal is used where azimuth stabilization is used. The accuracy of a well setup system can be as good as +/- 1% . It is 20 years or more since I played / worked with radar, so I guess even the pulse radars of today have come on a long way since then ......... Doppler direction finding is more my bag .........
  25. However, it has not been calm for 3 complete days, and I would question why he didn't use a compass to get him back to the shore line .......... pretty poor sailor I would say, but it sort of typifies quite a lot of the rag and stick brigade ............ Good of the Border Force to tow him in ............ I wonder how many immigrants he had hidden in there 🤣
