Quality fishing Josh, as usual! Well done 👍

Today's challenge for the technical admin is to write a script that ensure photos are correctly orientated when posting from an Iphone .............it must be something about the way apple pictures are formatted because I have had the same thing happen when transferring for iphone 11pro max to a PC ............

Funnily enough on the list recently compiled by David Turner

I knew David and it was a sad loss, in more recent times the skipper of the Madeline May out of Falmouth ............ David passed from prostate cancer in 2018 ..........

His website for the Madeline May still lives on ..................http://www.cornishsharkfishing.co.uk/about-us/

Sounds like all that fast living and fast women are catching up with you GPS... 😉

Since I retired almost 10 years ago the medics have found that I have a hyper active immune system, which caused my colitis. But a side effect is that it makes me highly resistant to antibiotics, so they give me steroids to slow down the immune response.

I would love to be fishing tomorrow, but it would unfair on my grandson kyle if I was taken ill. At 14 years old he is almost 6ft tall and has a very old and wise head on young shoulders, but a big ask to look after the boat and me !

    As per the title.

The first weather window for weeks, and I am grounded ..............🥵

I was hoping to be out tomorrow, but I am nursing a pretty bad UTI, which I tend to get about every 18 months ............... Being on strong antibiotics and Corticosteroids, also running a temperature of 39.4c tonight, the wife has dissuaded me from fishing tomorrow  .......... however next Friday and Saturday look like a good weather window .............

I do indeed @GPSguru I was out for a couple of nights last week. 😊🎣

That looks a nice setup Spence ................

In France, in most places, 4 rods are allowed ...................... I use 4 x Century NG SU with 60mm butt rings, all matched with Shimano Ultregra 5500 XSB's with bait runner spools, Delkim TXi Plus alarms with LED bobbins, and a full stainless rod Pod ..............................also in France on the rivers, you are not allowed to night fish from the shore (you are allowed one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise), it is actively policed, but there are ways around it by using a punt anchored less than a metre off the bank !, although that is frowned upon ..............

As @headlightmentions @Saintly Fishthe conditions in the uk are absolutely perfect for Great Whites.

There are 3 species of shark which can regulate their temperatures...

    They are:

    Thresher Shark

    Porbeagle Shark

    Great White Shark

    interesting eh... 🤔🤔🤔

Hmm ......... your list is not complete Spence .................

The short finned Mako Shark, (better known as the Mako skark, is closely related to the porbeagle and can lift its body temperature to higher than the water it is swimming in.

I have caught Mako's (NOT in thUK) and they are nasty unpredictable barstewards (a bit like a few on here 🤣🤣🤣) .............. so I reckon they are related to Congers !!!!!!

I'd even speculate that @GPSguru is no stranger to a Greenwell's Glory??

Nah Andy ............. fly fishing is something that has never appealed to me ....................and I have at least 2 Fly lakes right on my doorstep ...............

My fishing is pretty much just boat fishing in the UK, with maybe an estuary shore session probably once or twice a year ............

In France (we go there for 3 weeks at  time under more normal circumstance) I tend to fish the rivers, mainly for Carp, but you also get the enviable Catfish. I can assure that a near 50lb River common Carp really pulls your string ..................I reckon maybe another 12 months before I can do that again ................

    Welcome to the site 🙂

im also a member of CBYC, but my boat is sheltering from the COVID crisis down west this year so no cod for me!

I would think that there will be Cod on the deep water wrecks out of Milford .......................... you need to practise bouncing a shad close to the wreck.............

So is a Norwegian pirk a slow jig?  We let them down, keeping in close contact, as pollack often hit them hard as they flutter

No, they are a standard Pirk jig and feck'in hard work in comparison to slow pitch jigging ................ a true slow jig is geometrically designed so that one side of the jig is much heavier than the other, this gives it a slow fluttering side to side motion as it free falls through the water column, very much like a leaf falling from a tree or a feather falling on a still day .................. the design also means that you can easily impart different actions to the jig and make it look like a fish darting from side to side.................

Thanks Mick - I gave him a call and an email last week but so far I've not had any response. I understand that this is quite usual for him... not sure how I feel about that though.

Steve Batchelor ..... he is a prominent member of the england boat fishing team ...... and yes, his SS fabrication skills are better than excellent.  I doubt that you will find better ....

Anyone ever had a ling from east or west Wight areas? I've never caught one and I'm keen to fix that, but I've not heard of them being caught round this way. Any ideas?

We normally find Ling in the deeper water, mainly on wrecks that are over 180 ft deep ...............

They put up an excellent fight, but rarely can you return them as they 'blow' (barotrauma) easily.

You can fish those wrecks all day with lures and never see a Ling (but get plenty of Pollock).......... put on some baited feathers or even just a baited hook (fillet of Mack) on a simple running ledger  and you will soon find the Ling, they are always the first fish to the bait, even quicker than pout ...............  you need a heavy trace as they have some serious teeth ...........an average fish is 15lb - 20lb, my biggest is 34lb ...............

Its become very popular to use the electric engines on the bow of boats even up around 7m in length. These will lock onto a gps exact mark which is great when wind and current constantly swing an anchored boat off the mark. Also staying right over the part of the wreck where the fish are holding can be very hit and miss on anchor.

That is exactly what I am thinking of doing for next season, using a MinnKota with i-pilot ............ I have used one on a quicksilver 590 and its station keeping over a wreck in 200ft was pretty impressive, with a max of about 1m drift ............... to deploy and hit the 'spot' was about 50 times quicker than dropping the pin ............

The rolls royce would be the auto deploy Ulterra model, but that is the thick end of £4k ................ the  manual deploy models with I-pilot come out at about £1k -£1.5k

All it needs is a battery stowed in the anchor locker and judging by a boat that has one her, you can get about 7 hours battery life in a modest wind and tide, which is plenty for most of us ...............

  13.

For those of us on the south coast, then real time wave info is a real help ............ it has about a 30min lag .............run by Plymouth marine university ...........

    https://www.channelcoast.org/

It can be a bit diffcut to navigate, but select realtime data and then select a site off the map............

Here is the realtime data in table format for Sandown Bay (IOW) and it will autoupdate about every 30mins ............

    Here ...... https://www.channelcoast.org/realtimedata/?chart=80&tab=waves&range=day&disp_option=1&user_indate=&datum=chart

Yes I am aware of this and that’s my only reservation. I don’t have time to polish the boat myself. I’ve been quoted £340 to polish the hull and if it needs doing every season that 2500-3400 quid over the life time of the wrap. The wrap is better value over the life time. Could be even better value seeing as the guy wants his bathroom re done!

Give it a go Neil ...... apart from the initial cost profile you have got nothing to lose. If it doesn't work out like you hoped then it is pretty easy to reverse back to where you are now with just a small dent in your wallet.

However, it does damage easily so you will need to be mega careful when berthing an also when any boats pull along side.

Ok guys, clear your calendars, get your boats and gear ready.

Boat is coming out of the water 2nd December. Hopefully will only be a few days to scrub her bum, coat of wax and engines serviced before back in.

Obviously the weather will be perfect as I won’t be able to head out 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There is a possibility of some settled weather next week as we head into some HP on Sunday through to Thursday, however, the current projected position of the HP centre will make it a marginal window at best ...............I'm itching to get out for some wreck Pollock etc ............

Good advice Neil. Even if JonC does not oblige, your gelcoat is far better than a film wrap.  Once you have mastered the polisher you could try self isolating in Lincolnshire and do mine.  Geoff.

    Farecla G3 or G6 , followed by a good boat wax .......................

Electric polishing is quick ............ 2 or us did one side of a Bavaria 36 yacht  on a short tide window, then turned it on the high tide and did the other side on the next tide window ...........

  17. 11 minutes ago, Saintly Fish said:

    Anyway...... back to the topic

The only bad thing I have heard about is that 'wrap' is very easily damaged, nowhere near as tough as Gel coat ..............

Get stuck in there with an electric polisher, followed by a good quality wax ................ JonC will do it for you ..........🤣

I want POWER.... is there a rating I should look for ?

Have you considered Satellite BB .............. there are not many ISP's and BigBlu was recently bought out , but most (not all) use HYLAS satellites (Avanti HYLAS 1) which are geo's but based around the 18th meridian (18 degrees west) so a much higher angle from your dish, which is handy if you live in a valley ............ just a thought

Satellite BB is pretty much rock solid, you only lose it twice a year for an hour or so during the 'sun-out' period in spring and autumn ..........that is when the sun is directly behind the satellite in line with your dish ..............

  19. 3 hours ago, JDP said:

The verdict on which is best can be tricky but generally slow jigging will catch more species

It is the slow fluttering drop that does the trick ............. there isn't many fish that will turn their nose up at what looks like a free easy meal with no effort  ............

    I have Garmin stuff on my boat (came with it) 1 x 5012, 1 x 5022 and a newer 7410 xsv

I've not really played around with the newer one, just use the other 2

The detail on the older units is no match to the detail on the Navionics app on my phone

The 2 plotters run the g2 vision card, is the g3 vision as good as the Navionics

Has anyone compared the both side by side

Seem to remember Andy or Fishy upgraded all their electronics a while back ?

Since 2017 Garmin owns Navionics, so all their charts since late 2017 are now based on Navionics ............
