For the inshore Codling of which there are not many and not worth targetting (it's always been like that) then Mack strip and squid seem to work ................ nearly all of our cod come from the wrecks, and there we just let the Red Gills and slow jigs do their stuff ...............

They are all much of a muchness Ian ............... I prefer Garmin solely because I like their GUI and the customer service has always been good for me ............ but yes, Simrad, Raymarine etc all do the same job with equal effect ................ I sometimes take out a Procharter (30ft) and that has a PC based system for the plotter / sonar, and to be fair it is extremely good with twin 22" widescreen monitors ...............

It has a Garmin 5012, a 5022 and a newer 7410 xsv. I may upgrade the 2 older units, but don't like the price tag of similar sized new ones

Mine are built in (95SV Plus x 2), but when I update them they will be on an SD card .................... if yours are on a card and you bought it from Gamin, them that download is available to you for 12 months, so it is possible for have more than one SD card with the charts on ..............

Going through a repeater slows your WIFi if you are connected through that repeater, as every extra device adds latency to the system, however, your actual WIFI through put is only ever going to be as fast as your BB connection speed, unless of course you are transferring data between devices .............

When we were on Sky, their router was crap for WIFI but very good as a modem, so I used to use it as the modem and a TP-Link router for the WIFI .......... you do that by creating a DMZ (demilitarized zone) from the modem to the router ...............

Now we are on Vodafone, I find their router very, very, good both as a modem and WIFI router ..................

For all my important connections, like my PC, the network Xerox printer, and the franking machine, I hard wire these to the router using Cat 7 RJ45 network cables.

I only have one repeater in the kitchen, and this is only turned on when I am working right at the bottom of the garden ...............

Depends, on how you want to manage your data, but yes, you can create as many SD cards as you want ................

If you want to look at your charts on Homeport then you need to have them downloded form the plotter to a SD card, you can do that process onto as many SD cards as you like ............

I tend to download all my user data to the sd card at the end of each trip, and then analyse it on Homport ....................

My SD card is setup with a folder called Marks which is the master copy of all my waypoints (it is the same as 'my collection' on  Homeport), and another folder called 'transfer' to which all the waypoints and active tracks gets downloaded to at the end of each trip ............... using Homport you can also add some detail into your 'marks'  using the 'notes' tab which will also be available on the plotter. I store info about the wrecks, like length, width, height, orientation, and scour positions

It is always best to have a card in the plotter just in case you need to take a screen dump, just press 'Home' for 6 secs and it will dump the screen to the SD card (the plotter creates a folder called SCRN and the files are .BMP (bitmap) format ..............

I assume your plotter card has the charts on it which you download to it from the plotter. This also carries your device information for homeport to allow it to display the charts.

Your marks will be in the default my collection folder of homeport. You need to save these to the sd card into a new folder. ‘Marks’ is a good folder name. Your SD card will be under the device tab in the library pane.
 

if you then turn on your plotter and then plug in the SD card it will prompt you to manage your data. You then tell the plotter to either merge or overwrite you waypoints. It will then prompt you to select the folder with your marks in.

Keeps asking me to download an app to open them, which I did and still nothing opens

Something not right there ....................... what operating system is the laptop running ?

If you can open homeport then click on the 'my collection, folder in the top left hand pane and it should populate the lower left hand pane with the contents of that folder which will be your marks .............

However, if you have saved them onto an SD card then you can check that your work is still there ................ open the SD card in Explorer and you should find a file with the extension .adm ............ probably within the Garmin folder ..............

You should have this ...............

True .............. but your PLB is equipped with an automatic short range 'homing beacon' on 121.5Mhz (same as all aircraft) and the LB / Chopper will use that to find you, as its range will be vastly more than the short term visual from a smoke flare ...................

I have gone over to a PLB as my main emergency modus operandi ............... it could be argued that you may need an orange smoke flare so the emergency services can pinpoint your vessel, but I will rely upon AIS to do that for me 😇 ...................... I have always been of the opinion that Flares are more of a liability on small vessels ..............

In these modern technology times, I feel that flare are largely redundant, and I can see them being written out of the colregs ............

I replaced a starter motor on a Mercury 100 (2009) last week as the built in solenoid is a common fault ......the solenoid is not available as a separate part and the complete starter was £420 ....... easy to replace (3 bolts)

You don't change the tyres very often on a trailer, they usually date expire first !

The tyres are moved and refitted by the powder coating guys who specialise in wheels and marine metalwork.
 

They did my last boat trailer, the ifor Williams GP trailer, and the Jeep wheels.  ....... all have been fine.

I will get the boat trailer wheels done in left handed blue to match the boat 😇

The wheel is fine, but it is often the tyre they put on them that has the incorrect load rating .............

TBF, most steel wheels supplied by trailer manufacturers are crap ........... mine are 18 months old and showing quite a lot of rust, despite being washed down after every trip.

However, this winter I will get them powder coated ......... that seems to last OK ............

BTW: Your plan was perfect and it definitely works, but once you have got rid of the water by planing, then run back to the stern and stuff some rag tightly in the hole with a screwdriver to pack it in ...........

On the RIB we don't have an outside bung, just a hull void drain into the sump, which is pumped by an automatic Johnson Bilge pump .............. for the deck I have 2 x 100mm elephant trunks and once lowered these remove water at the rate of 38,400Litre per Hour ...................I have only used them twice, once out on the wrecks I took a huge wave over the stern from a charter boat that should have known better (I gave him earache on 16) ................and the second time was drifting beam to the sea (2m swell in overfalls), when I took a huge wave over the tubes (next to no freeboard on a RIB) ...............

Well, it would be quite a slow trip, but doable, although you are going to take a few green ones over the cabin as the max wave height will be about 1.8 - 2m (1.4m is the avg wave height) however, I personally would wait for better weather to prevail .............

I was hoping to get out Tuesday, our weather forecast is better than yours but still marginal for me ...........
