GPSguru got a reaction from Malc in Come on then... who's out at the weekend?
Unfortunately we are away this weekend, but I might be able to fish the estuary, but a bit early for the bass, which is prolific in the autumn.
However, might be able to get out Thursday morning on the boat, but limited the half a day (school run).

A decent weather window today, so I made the effort to go out, as due to the weather the boat hasn't moved for 3 months.
A solo trip and launched at 07:00 into a very flat sea. First stop was a bunch of 3  wrecks off berry head which in the past were always netted, but in view of the pollock ban, I assumed correctly that the nets would be gone. Well, I was right, but there are a significant amount of crab pots on the wrecks. A couple of drifts on each produced nothing, so I headed inshore to the Orestone.
several drifts on the Orestone produced a few Mackerel and one Herring. As I brought it up I couldn't decide between a large sardine or small herring, but with the dorsal fin well past the half way mark, it had the be a herring.
Having had a good shakedown the boat is running well, and I came back in at lunchtime.
So 27nm and rewarded with a few bait fish, so not too bad for mid April.

First trip out for a few weeks and only the second of the year. Just a short one again over high with another club boat out. We both steamed about 10 miles to a bank on the edge of our old club boundaries to see if the hounds had turned up yet. We started on the very outer contour. Was a bit slow with a few dogs, straps and thornbacks and the other boat which was on top of the bank was faring better. As the tide eased we upped the anchor and shortened the rope out and repositioned closer to the bank. This improved sport with more of the same in greater numbers and also a small spotty for my dad and a nice hound 12lb + for my bro. Had heavy squall come through which dropped the temperature for the last couple of hours but overall a nice day out

Very early kick off as the weather was due to kick up mid morning, which it did.
Not much happening and I think that the amount of fresh water is pushing fish offshore but I managed a pout for the species comp and a whiting that was very thin by changing from bigger baits to scratching gear.

Looking forward to warmer weather and fish moving in to feed, but that's a month off I think, however we did see some gulls taking something on the surface where the pier kicks up the tidal race so hopeful that there will be early bait fish for the predators.

yes, right now I can understand that.
The disco sport only has 36k on it, so the pump should never have failed.
I think I will go back to Volvo once the disco is fixed, maybe a V60, as the V90 is way too big.

Hoping to get out tomorrow, but I will be solo as Kyle is ill ( has developed UC the same as me).
Boat hasn't moved for 3 months (last time out was Jan 15th ) mainly due to the weather, but I have also been fitting a new kitchen that turned into a bigger job ( had to take the walls back to brick and remove the ceiling) and also have had a nightmare with my disco sport ( fuel pump failure, 6 to 9 months for a new part, but LR are now seeing sense and hopefully will sort me out with a loan car next week.
Just getting the boat ready, both batteries are fine and it started on the button. Just the rods to load and top up the tubes. I wont be going far tomorrow, maybe try for a few fresh mack and give the inshore wrecks a drift or two.

GPSguru reacted to mike farrants in Saturday 30th March - Easter trip!
after Storm Nelson on Thursday/Friday there was a very slight break in the weather forecast for Saturday which had us up at the crack of sparrows - for a 6.45am meet at the boat.
I had the inlaws staying for Easter and my Birthday so Phil joined me and Tim on Tim's boat.
we tried for mackerel first but failed miserably - so soon headed out to the 'Hot spot' as i'm now calling it - 5miles off, 80ft water, mixed ground - throws up all sorts.
We fished small baits for bream and were not disappointed - 28 to the boat before we lost count - big ones, small ones, must be feeding up for spawning as they were fat with roe.

we also had pout, whiting, and scad in the mix.
as the tide slackened off we went with big baits for the scavengers - Phil had his 1st ever Bull huss - Tim had some too - going to 12Lb - also found one pregnant mum - so put her back swiftly.

Tim also had a Smoothie, and i had congers and thorny instead of a huss.

we of course had dogs - but not too many to spoil the day.
there was a lot of left over swell making it rather lumpy and making me queasy for most of the day - as the afternoon got on the wind veered to the SE to ruin it for everyone - so we were back in the marina before 4pm. pub for 5pm.
Not sure when we will get out next!

Our club record plaice 6lb 11oz was caught on the shambles using a half side of mackerel on a 5/0 hook with no bling.  We were fishing for the illusive turbot which we had but they were smaller than the plaice lol

Prawn is my go to bait as it tends to find the bigger fish.
The worm vs fish bait is a choice between an endless string of weevers, dragonets, and tiny gurnards, or hooking the occasional doggy, and believe me, the latter is a better option.
