  1. It was pretty good to be honest. Rob Rennie went out the next day and managed 4 blues and a porgie. Back out Sunday to see what can find 🙂 Hopefully a few more but I’ll think twice about looking at 7ft+ porgie again 😂😂😂 Still it was great to smash a season goal so early in year.
  2. There are multiple lines of enquiry.
  3. More fish and bigger… one of the guys out with me yesterday is doing a charter again in 3 weeks so the pressure is on to get more and bigger again 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
  4. Ok I’m struggling to get good photos of the fish…. I need someone capable on the camera whike I deal with the toothy critters…. there is one of them. the big girl was just under 7ft long. Her head went from my door down ti the back of the boat. There was no way of bringing her in (not safe for me or fish) a d she went berserk just as soon as grabbed t bar so was quickly released to avoid damage…. I’d of loved better pics but sometimes just have to do what’s best for the fish…. And it’s a good excuse to try and catch another 🤣🤣🦈🦈🎣🎣
  5. I was due to be busy on the weekend but I’m now free…. So may need to sneak back out again…. Saturday or Sunday… I shall see if I can find anyone 🙂 Hopefully you get some good weather and I’m sure Andrew will put you on the fish 🙂 🦈🎣
  6. First shark trip of the year, first as charter skipper…. 63 trips of finding the sharks and no blanks the pressure was on as it’s still best early season…. But I managed to get 2 for the crew on board. A nice 160lb PB for one crew and a 180lb for another. They let me have 3rd fish…. 35 mins later it was in. It was a submarine but felt like it…. At somewhere north of 300lb she was a VERY angry girl 😬🤣 Misson accomplished is very tricky conditions on first trip of year with 2 PBs on board I was a happy (but exhausted) skipper getting home at 11pm last night after the 5am start…. odyssey sea adventures is ready for buisness 😁 Pics to follow
  7. Spiral guides are used to help the angler play the fish…. On big game rods they are becoming more popular as it reduces the twist torque on a conventional guides mounted on top of the rod. I’ve got 2 shark rods built that way and 2 conventional. In the hopes my customers can have whatever they prefer… hopefully they get a bend in soon
  8. My understanding of MS Amlin is that machinery relates to the engines only…. I did question this as im Insured with them myself
  9. Yes, every month they get tested and signed off as part of maintenance schedule. It’s part of coding requirement but I did it anyway. The alarms are typically fail safe (go off even if no water present). Alarms are all fitted next to seacocks in case one fails. Seacocks are exercised every month as well as part of maintenance schedule, usually more often, but give the check over too. Bilge pumps are all on electronic solid state switches that are easy to test as well and get tested regularly. I’ve had alarms go off at sea, hit a wave, bilge filled, pump cleared it quickly, but if it hadn’t it’d been a different scenario…. I’d of soon lost stability ti take the next one and one after etc…. When pump needed replacement i replaced it with an even higher output tgst was previously there as a just in case…..
  10. The guy I bought my boat off had owned a boat that sank…. He said was terrifying…. I’ve got 6 electric bilge pumps so my capacity is x3 coding regulations, bilge alarms and 3 manual pumps. What is perhaps scary his boat nearly sank and was fitted with standard flow rate for a cat 2 coded boat… so hence the upgrade on the next boat.
  11. My old Orkney had a sea toilet. It had 2 seacocks. The sea toilet is up near the bow behind the helm. It also didn’t come with a manual bilge pump or any kind of bilge pump. I had to fit inspection hatches and fit manual bilge pump myself. If you’ve seen a seacock fail it’s scary…. The flow of water into the boat is large.
  12. I’m sorry but that’s a bit of a poor show of the MAIB…. There is loss of life, lessons can be learned I’m sure for both commercial and leisure boats. On a more human level, I’m sure it would help the family to know what happened 😞
  13. Welcome to the nut house…. Have a word with @jonnyswamp too, he does some SPJing and has had some good success :)!
  14. It does make you think what happened 😞 I’m away camping in France for a few days but when I’m back I’ll be back at it again as it’ll be shark time
  15. Im with @GPSguru here…. Can’t do LH multis, Em is a leftie, has a LH multis but can also cope with a right….
  16. Great day out 🙂 Em likes a bit of fishing, but only if they are small, good eating and have no teeth 🤣 She is starting to like sharking on flat days though
  17. One of those rare days in wales…. Hopefully we get a few days like these 🙂
  18. Gorgeous weather meant was too good to miss out on a trip… Fished inshore in hope of a tope, sadly not be but plenty of pollack, gurnard, wrasse, launce about 🙂 Nice to feel some warmth, summer is finally coming 🙂 Locks were carnage… some rather interesting manoeuvres going on both on way and way out so Em sat on the bow and watched how not to do it…. Sunday was spent making chum… off on hols in 2 weeks and when I’m back it’s time to get on the sharks! Be nice if to get hear those ratchets going again 😁
  19. So looks like a trip on the cards Saturday…. Pollack fishing on the drift and depending on the winds maybe a crack at a tope or 2 at anchor. In 2 minds about inshore or offshore reefing…. Offshore more fish but needs good conditions, inshore slightly less fish but chance to have a go at the tope…. I guess keep an eye on the forecasts and see if I can rustle up a crew…. All outlaws welcomed! 😁
  20. After a period of respite, it’s time for one of classic (crap) jokes 😄😄😄😄
  21. Victron are excellent. I’ve got one of their charger/inverters on my boat and been faultless for years. Not cheap mind… but they are fully IP65 or IP67 and built to last
