  1. Need to recalibrate the compass, you basically drive round in a circle slowly while in calibration mode, have a look on YouTube it’s much quicker than the manual to understand! for the radar check the connection at the Radome and clean it up, they are prone to water ingress, msg need to quick clean ti getting it up a d running. if all else fails, I’ll give you a tenner for it 😉
  2. Get the surfboard out in the meantime 😍
  3. Sure have…. Its inshore of the stark grounds but I may have a spare weekend in the diary so may try a recce trip inshore to see if any others hiding out
  4. You can apply for a small ships license here…. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/radio-equipment/online-licensing-service/ this will give you the MMSI number to allow DSC operation on your VHF. The RYA course is the VHF SRC. It’s a one day course with a simple exam at the end. It’ll take you through operating channels, pan pan vs mayday procedures and other useful information. That along with a Power Boat Level 2 gives you a good basic understanding of boating. A lot of centres do a deal if you look to complete both. At the very least read the RYA VHF handbook…. So you don’t end up saying “over and out” in real life 😉
  5. Westher looking good for weekend 🙂 hopefully it holds for us all
  6. Fingers crossed….. I’ve heard of the first sighting off St Ives by Sam yesterday. Im spooling up some reels this week so I’m ready to go once we get some sightings at our end…. Hopefully they show up this year in higher numbers…
  7. He was contacted via VHF a number of times, in the end the navy had to go over to him and sort it out… so that was perhaps part of the prosecution costs… I’ve also seen recently that a Jet ski driver was also prosecuted recently under the updated Col regs where PWC are required to follow the Col regs…. Apparently he was was wake jumping in front of the Cowes ferry, in Cowes week forcing the ferry to take immediate evasive action…. 🫣🫣🫣🫣 Moral of the story….. read the rules folks, may save your life 🙂
  8. Quick reminder as to why it’s important to remember the Collision Regulations, especially when you’re in an area with a TSS (traffic separation scheme). £25k must of stung a bit…. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/day-angling-skipper-fined-for-breaching-dover-strait-shipping-lane-rules#:~:text=The skipper and owner of,prosecution costs of £25%2C000.
  9. Couple of pics from last few trips, usual stuff, pollack, sharks, wrasse etc 🙂 Numbers improving all the time. I’ll keep adding to this thread as I often can’t remember who caught what when but will keep it a rolling update… Numbers of scad around at the moment is insane… make a good bait so not all bad 🙂 Back out on sharks this weekend, then a weekend off followed by an empty boat for the weekend (17th and 18th August) if you fancy getting in on the action drop a line, nice tides for SPJ and sharking else I’ll just have to have a practice run for the tuna…
  10. Totally agree…. I use the cheap stuff for general fishing but I use trusted (more expensive stuff) for the big fish trips.
  11. Any of you experts can get large quantities of Hollowcore? Needs to be 100lb and I’m after 10,000m quantities….
  12. Was a bit lumpy after the Saturday blow but managed to work around it and get some smiles on faces which us what it’s all about really 🙂 Best fisherman is the one having the most fun 🙂
  13. Bit of mixed fishing this weekend. Managed Huss, conger, gurnard, ballan and cuckoo wrasse, cod, coalfish, dogfish, weever, mackeral, pouting, bass, launce and pollack. Loads of pollack on offshore reefs. Inshore was a bit slow, so much bait fish in the water I guess?
  14. New chain to be fitted. She was having a tart up. We don’t do much anchoring down west it’s nearly all drift fishing.
  15. Pirate road trip 🙂 🙂
  16. He bought Celtic Wikdcat (used to be in Neyland) 2 years ago…. He took a winter to fit new engines and then wanted to sell the cougar…. Which took a while as was asking quite a bit. He then dropped the price a few times

  19. Eek…. That’s not good… fingers crossed it calms down for you 🙂 I love camping out on the boat overnight 🙂 even if the sound of the water sloshing against the hull really makes me want to pee 😂😂😂😂

    Sharks

Managed to get out on Saturday after having had a few issues with a gearbox but now all sorted so was lovely to be out sadly the forecast changed at the last minute I warned the crew we’d be in for a rough ride but tbey were keen to get out. After a rather bouncy 3 hour steam we were on the shark grounds…. First run in 30 mins. Was a decent porbeagle but sadly managed to slip the hook. Rather frustrating! we had another run which after a spirited battle we had a cute little porgie abour 100-110lb to the boat. It was wrapped up but a wave soon washed it through the door… Quick photo, tagged and released. Anorher blue of about 80lb soon came along, again tagged and released. Sadly the crew lost another porgie just underneath the boat…. I was keen to carry on but with 4 anglers with heads over the rail they decided to head in… another 3 hour steam home in a lumpy beam on sea and we were home 🙂 Lovely to be back out there hopefully a few more weatger windows abd can get out again 🙂
  21. I’ve had to walk past it for 2 years…. He kept nagging but I resisted… but we came to a gentleman’s agreement and now im skint 😂😂😂😂
  22. Pics to follow…. But it’s big, it’s white and it’s got 2 hulls 🤩🤩🤩🤩
