  1. Need to recalibrate the compass, you basically drive round in a circle slowly while in calibration mode, have a look on YouTube it’s much quicker than the manual to understand!

for the radar check the connection at the Radome and clean it up, they are prone to water ingress, msg need to quick clean ti getting it up a d running.

if all else fails, I’ll give you a tenner for it 😉

  2. You can apply for a small ships license here….

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/radio-equipment/online-licensing-service/

this will give you the MMSI number to allow DSC operation on your VHF.

The RYA course is the VHF SRC. It’s a one day course with a simple exam at the end. It’ll take you through operating channels, pan pan vs mayday procedures and other useful information. That along with a Power Boat Level 2 gives you a good basic understanding of boating. A lot of centres do a deal if you look to complete both.

At the very least read the RYA VHF handbook…. So you don’t end up saying “over and out” in real life 😉

I had seen that in the online news over here a couple of weeks back. Its amazing how many people don't have any clue on any sort of regulations, not just this. Being in a small boat in the ocean thinking you have the rights and entitlement to do as you please while other move around you seems quite normal with many people. In saying that the fine of 1730 was a big lesson and the 25000 in court costs is shocking. I would love to see a breakdown on what those prosecution costs are. Makes you think twice about considering using the legal system.

He was contacted via VHF a number of times, in the end the navy had to go over to him and sort it out… so that was perhaps part of the prosecution costs…

I’ve also seen recently that a Jet ski driver was also prosecuted recently under the updated Col regs where PWC are required to follow the Col regs…. Apparently he was was wake jumping in front of the Cowes ferry, in Cowes week forcing the ferry to take immediate evasive action…. 🫣🫣🫣🫣

Moral of the story….. read the rules folks, may save your life 🙂

Do you stick to buying the same labeled ebay braid or shop around ? Maybe its just this part of the world but everyone Ive known to try ebay braids have ended up binning theirs. Maybe being so close to China we get way more fraudulent braid. Ebay even shows this when I looked to see what we have on offer https://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Buying/BUYER-BE-AWARE-OVER-RATED-STRENGTH-RAITINGS-ON-BRAID-LINES-amp/td-p/1729155

Some of the department store braids can be cheaper than Ebay and at least people have a bit of warranty if it doesn't perform as advertised. I saw a conversation on another site where dry and wet strengths also changed on some of them.

We might only get 1 or 2 days (nights) opportunity to target broadbill, which can be in excess of 300kg and found offshore in water depths of 3000m. I'd prefer the confidence of knowing the braid on my reel when I have 1200m out that it is as advertised.

    Totally agree….

I use the cheap stuff for general fishing but I use trusted (more expensive stuff) for the big fish trips.

Looks like a new rig apart from the rusty anchor chain, will you be replacing that for stainless or a better quality galvanised one, or just put up with the rust stains that will stain into the fibreglass.

New chain to be fitted. She was having a tart up. We don’t do much anchoring down west it’s nearly all drift fishing.

Has he got a new boat then ?

    Rob I mean

He bought Celtic Wikdcat (used to be in Neyland) 2 years ago…. He took a winter to fit new engines and then wanted to sell the cougar…. Which took a while as was asking quite a bit. He then dropped the price a few times
