Odyssey

Once I headed into the locks at Cardiff on one of the first trips on Odyssey. 

It was a windy day abs she catches the wind a lot.... so I thought I’d use my bow thruster to make it easy and glide up to the pontoon to push the boat against the wind (I was about 5ft from the pontoon). 
 
Only issue was some numpty who had been rewiring the boat had put the bow thruster switch in upside down so whereas I wanted to go towards starboard. I was now heading to port..... it was very graceful glide across the entire side of the lock.... 
All worked out ok and I mmmm sure it looked like it was intended 🤣🤣🤣

Best fail I saw was again in Cardiff....
It was a busy lock and large cruiser was trying to lock in. The crew were a larger, older couple.... all going well but coming in way too fast. So he slams boat into reverse, whist standing in the door to the cabin so he now starts going backwards. 
 
Somehow, he managed to inflate his life jacket, which then wedged him in the door unable to move.... he’s now barking instructions to his wife who was trying to push him through the door. 
 
So he is now going backwards slowly towards lock gates that are starting to close..... he moves through the gap out into the outer harbour. Most of the boats are weak with laugher at this. 
 
He is then on radio to lock control asking to come back in, they are very definite saying no and advising him not to reverse out of a lock he wanted to be in. He then wanted someone to help deflate his life jacket so that he can move about his boat again.... 
Moral of the story.... be careful using your life jacket.... and learn how to control the speed of your boat 😉

We used to set them off as demonstrations after they had been handed into marine rescue (same as RNLI) however, work cover now doesn't allow us to. So now we play war games with them on a friends remote property, who happens to be high in the police force. 
Its good to be familiar with how to use them incase China invades !!!!

Coastguard by prior arrangement. 
 
also try LGS marine. They service liferafts and life jackets as well as sell lifting gear. Costs about £3 per flare from memory 

Legs can be ok if looked after. My boat used to have twin Yamaha legs but after spending 20k to get them fixed and reconditioned he gave up fitted a pod and twin outboards.
Offshore 25 far better boat than an osprey. Osprey doesn’t have much beam so will roll. You won’t get a good one for 20k thoigh 😞 

Quite nice down here tonight... 3 of us in pub, boat filled with fuel and another 200l in reserve, enough to get me to lands end or Bristol 😅😅

Toned the swell down now, and significantly smaller once you get past Gower so hopefully with wind and swell and tide following me I can make it home....
My boat is good in a following sea, its a head sea when you get them over to the roof as she rides bow up most of the time anyway...
Not a day for stopping off on the reefs for a few mackerel/bass/pollack that’s for sure!

Nice cod, I heard there had been quite a few in Solent, more than previous years 🙂 
Hopefully I can get out in Bristol Channel soon to find some

Well weather still looking like it’s half holding for Tuesday.... last chance to to get back for at least a week....
Strap myself in and ride the swells for 100NM... going to be a long 5-6 hours I think 🤣🤣🤣
