Gordmac got a reaction from daio web in Ford 2711E impeller speed compared to engine revs
There are two impellers, the one that pumps the seawater which draws from the sea through a stopcock via a strainer normally(is it clear?) then through various heat exchangers before exiting via the exhaust. In the 6 cylinder Fords this is gear driven from memory, is yours driven by a belt? The other impeller is driven by the belt in your picture and pumps coolant round the engine and heat exchanger and is a closed system, same as a car, this system is normally reliable.
When was your seawater impeller last changed? Does the seawater flow out the exhaust look reasonable?
Last time I had an overheat (6 cylinder Ford) it was a faulty oil cooler, traced with the aid of a non contact thermometer.

Pickup disease! The separate chassis design is full of rust traps, the nature of the beast unfortunately.

Make it waterproof? Sell more expensive parts?
If you can find a parts catalogue, if the lead is available separately it will have a part number.

Pull the fluxgate fuse and see if that makes a difference. I don't think my plotter has an option to ignore the fluxgate, unless I switch the autopilot off the plotter automatically uses the fluxgate for direction.

What about those caravan mover devices that drive the trailer wheels?

I believe a lot of antifouls aren't suitable for aluminium due to copper in them.

I suppose if you remember to shut the breather valve every time the engine is stopped you might be ok. I don't think I would risk it. Fuel tanks and gas lockers are externally vented for a reason.

My guess would be a bad earth. Remove and properly clean all the connections.

Your contract is with the supplier not the maker. If it is still under warranty it is the responsibility of the supplier to honour the warranty not the maker.

If it has started going slowly you may have a problem with poor connections rather than the winch itself being faulty. Worth cleaning the connections and measuring the voltage when it is working.

I would ask if you are trying to treat the symptoms rather than the problem. If your engine isn't starting ok on one battery perhaps finding out why and sorting that is a better approach?

Seemed to me all the potential problems of an outdrive without the advantage of an inboard diesel! Is the air intake going to be far enough away from water in rough conditions?

Thanks, I was hoping someone else had done the legwork! I will have a look with the borescope, not easy to get eyes anywhere near it. Rubbing a finger round the hose connections makes me think they are ok. Concern is that it becomes a serious issue, ideally if it will last with a small leak until hibernation season and I can deal with it at my leisure, no steering at sea isn't appealing!

I believe it is very expensive to park a boat in the deep South but I would say it is misleading to suggest fuel is only a very small part of the cost. If you find that is the case maybe you should use your boat more!

    Sorry about that!
No great expert but outdrives seem to be used on relatively quick planing boats whereas shafts are on slower or semi displacement boats with lower power outputs. If you are looking at say about20kn cruise tops is an outdrive the best option? Outdrives are more efficient however so should give a bit more speed for a given power. What sort of power does a similar sized say Rodman have? Other thing to consider, is it a low deadrise boat? That would give more speed for a given power at the expense of slamming in a sea.

This would be the biggest, size 9 feet for comparison.

A few close to that size.
Was away a couple of times for trips on a friend's BT 35. Put a pot down in Port Ellen, Islay.

We get prawns rather than lobster here. I don't like shellfish though.

Thought I might add a bit to this.
Now ashore for the winter, I covered almost 500 nautical miles without actually going anywhere! Average consumption about 1.5L/m. Initially sat about 22kn but later about 27kn as the boat feels happier at that speed. Fantastic boat, if anyone is considering one go for it. Hard to imagine something better except maybe a bigger one!
We went out fishing fairly often but not venturing far away, normally with my cousin but his sister started coming with us and I think she is now hooked! Caught a fair number of Mackerel, they make good fishcakes for the winter. Quite a few what we refer to as Lythe (Pollack) and some Codling. I also got what I think was a small Scorpion fish, never saw one before. Too busy not touching it whilst unhooking for a picture!
We would normally get fewer Lythe but more small Cuddies (Coalfish) but never saw a cuddy this year for some reason. Aunt was disappointed, she loves them!
