Petroni
Tried a few more dry tests all broke same as before. Tried dunking line, tying knots, broke same. Tried leaving line submerged for a while, tying knots, still broke. Finally used slightly warmer than tepid water and submerged for a few minutes and finally got one of the tests to work at the 14.7kg 32½lb test weight while lifting very gingerly (no offence intended to gingers). It worked. Might just be a fluke but I then did a few searches online for braid BS generally and PPSpectra specifically and learned that my issue is the norm, not the exception. Seems that if the line is rated as CLASS it will honour the BS quoted but if, as is the case with almost all line, it is rated TEST, it could break if you sneeze on it. It seems that ratings are done based upon wet conditions which is odd as from what I found, braid does not absorb water, it just gets wet. Here is one chat that indicates what I found https://the-pikers-pit.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=25595 Tests over but I learned something today, braiding my hair will weaken it. suzook12 and Andy135 1

I don't buy it, the braid on the rod will be dry so what would be the point of having a 50lb breaking strain in the water but only 30lb out of the water.... Good for business selling braid tho I guess, as every break will be 100ft of line instead of a few feet.... Mind you, how many of us actually test breaking strains, most will usually just load it up and take it for granted. Geting broken up just makes the fish you'd hooked bigger!! I’ve purchased bream rigs and plaice rigs from him and they are quality home tied rigs. But with any rig you don’t tie yourself, always double check the knots. I can’t be arsed to tie rigs so generally use Ken’s and then running ledgers for all other situations. just remember with hook lengths, in a small tide make them double length over the strong tide lengths. This allows them to flow around that bit more. I think Ken may have changed his name to escape fame and fortune. An ebay search for "Ken's rigs" returns nothing but "seaswest" looked pretty fair with 30 mixed rigs for around £1.25 each (if you buy 3 lots of 10). Does Ken go by any other moniker? In these modern times he may have chosen a new gender assignment.

I’ve just messaged him to see if he has pulled his stuff.

Before I call him and say "Saintly Fish put me in touch" I thought I better know your name :p - Mine is Peter North but I don't tend to use it online as if you ever search for it you get the number one Canadian porn star pop up and this has been known to frighten any nearby domestic pets. But I will call Ken and see if he is up for making a few rigs for me, thank you very much. Today's question is about hooks - quality, quantity (and sourcing) I have bought a few packs of larger Mustad hooks (2/0's to 10/0s) and have seen (but not yet bought) Kamasan brand (from Angling Direct). They are packed in 7's so my question is, if I am stocking up on a small amount each of 4's, 2's, 1's and 1/0's etc, am I as well buying single packs of Kamasans at about £2.90 a pack or should I be looking elsewhere at better/larger quality/quantities or branded selection packs etc. As always, thanks for the shared knowledge. Petroni
BTW i saw this link on Angling Direct's site with Diawa J X8 braid at 42% below rrp, around £35 (Pink sale whatever that is) for 500m lengths that seemed like a deal (from what I recall elsewhere) and remembered that some here use it. It was dark green which may account for the price but I thought I would share https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/daiwa-j-braid-x8?queryID=74fab1b3b4a9b0174a615f45433277aa&objectID=48937&indexName=live_ad_uk_products
Andy135
Generally I tend not to skimp on hooks. Kamasan are a well known brand and I've used them without issue. Mustad and Cox & Rawle are other good brands. For now I'd say you could start off with the smaller packs until you find a brand you like then look at bulk packs when you're ready. suzook12
I tend to stick with kamasan uptide vikings or aberdeens in the smaller sizes. Haven't used enough cox n rawle to be impressed/unimpressed with them, however, mustad I won't touch with a barge pole, the reasons for which I no longer remember, but goes back to the 80's. Inability to hold a point may have been it.....

Petroni
Still waiting for 42 rigs I ordered (and were sent) a week ago to arrive but still no sign so if nothing by the end of today I'll get some hooks in and make a start myself. Thanks for the feedback on brands which matches what I thought except for Cox and Rawle which were not known to me. Cheers all.

It’s only Monday , if you ordered them Wednesday last week (I recall) and he sent them 2nd class they may not arrive til tomorrow/Wednesday which would then be a week. You can always give him a call back. He’s pretty good normally!

I thought it was the previous week to that, certainly seems like it in my head but thats saying nothing, all sorts of stuff goes wrong in there, I'll check. I tried phoning buut my phone was dead so pinged him an email and will phone shortly - and Hi btw :) Yup just checked order was previous week, he sent on 12th, I'll phone now in case of address error etc :) - Update - spoke to Ken, we'll give the postie another couple of days and then revert to plan B of just sending a few basic rigs to get me out of trouble and see if the larger consignment turns up with me or returns to him.
