Popular Post thejollysinker
Took a trip out in what can only be described as murky, damp and lumpy conditions. Was wind over going out into an Easterly breeze which made for a slowish cruise over towards Torquay to drift a patch of rough ground. Was hoping to go out to drift a wreck and then anchor up for some bait fishing but it was just too rough, especially when I was on my own. Saw one commercial on the way over, that was it for most of the day, hardly any other boats out, especially where I was. Anyway, set up one rod with hokkais and an 80g slow jig and proceeded to drift over the reef. Not a lot showing on the sounder... After the first unproductive drift, I altered my start position and after about 5 mins hooked into a nice Red Gurnard. I drifted many times in the very lumpy swell over various parts of the reef for a solitary Bass and several Mackerel but it was hard work and after 3.5 hrs of getting a pasting I decided to head back. Towards home the sun started to make an appearance which was nice so I decided to drift over the banks at the harbour entrance along with a couple of other boats. I had one Bass follow my lure right to the boat only to turn away last second (it was small) and 1.5 hrs and several drifts later slinging every type of paddletail, jig head and metal lure at them I came to the conclusion that they weren't there so I headed back in. Didn't see anyone else hook up either... Andy135, Scotch_Egg2012, GPSguru and 2 others 4
Saintly Fish
Well done for persevering with the weather. It looked proper miserable. But a nice bright gurnard to light up the day and some macks for the freezer! 👍🏻 thejollysinker
Andy135
Good report Gary! Sounds like you made the best of an iffy day, and with some nice fish to show for it. Frankly I would have been chuffed with just those mackerel, so with a bonus bass and bernard the gurnard I think you did well 👍 thejollysinker
