jonnyswamp
My boat is coming out Friday and apart from clean, polish, anti foul etc I need to get the timber work stained/oiled/varnished on top of the gunwales again Did it last year with International Schooner (IIRC) and it hasn't lasted well I seem to remember @JonC using something different and getting better results I know you're knocking on a bit now Jon, but can you remember what you used ? I've quickly looked through most of the old posts, but can't find the thread Edited September 15, 2021 by jonnyswamp

jonnyswamp
A google search came up with Coelan, good reviews and supposed to last 5-7 yrs ? I like the idea of longevity Saintly Fish
Gordmac
I used whatever teak oil the building supply shop sold. A fraction of the cost of what the boat maker specifies and seems fine. Faugh and captin slows old outlaw

My timber has silvered now which I quite like but if you prefer the deep red colour then treat them with D2, that’s the finishing coat. Got any pics? No pic's but just like the above pic , It must be good tung oil and not re-constuded boiled down linseed oil , Good tung oil will will be noted on the can as Pure . first two coats 50/50 with white sprit Andy135

Two heavy coats after the 50/50 coats on bare wood will last 2 years depending on abuse it get's , just wipe it with white sprit and and brush more on or use a rag it spreads well , No sanding unless heavy damage jonnyswamp and Saintly Fish
