Popular Post Mark82
Not sure how to grade todays visit but I’m leaning towards disappointing. started off on the hunt for mackerel. Had a few but never really got into a shoal or decent numbers. followed by a anchor session around by rame head on a large sandy patch. Nothing. then made the brave decision to go out to the eddystone. Had a few pouting and a red gurnard. nothing really more to note. Mitigation: my fish finder stopped working due to a connection fault so was working of navionics only. No real depth or wreck imagery my experience and knowledge is still questionable so maybe tactics and locations weren’t quite correct. first time out to the eddystone. Literally no idea where the ‘hot spots’ were. Putting it all down to experience (or lack of it) 🫡 Edited Saturday at 03:44 PM by Mark82 mike farrants, daio web, thejollysinker and 2 others

Saintly Fish
I'd call a lovely red gurnard a result! Mark82
JonC
Well done getting out, although the sound is sheltered it can still get shitty in there. Looks like you were fairly close to the Mountbatten breakwater? I reckon either end of the Breakwater fort would fish well and give a bit of shelter. I would think spending a few £s in Osborne and Graggs might buy you a B bit of information but beware of all the shiny stuff they have because you will walk out a poorer man. daio web and Mark82 1
jonnyswamp
You got out and caught fish, that's a positive in my book Keep at it and you'll find the "hotspots" Or follow some charter boats out and rob theirs 😁 Saintly Fish, Mark82 and daio web 1
thejollysinker
Good effort mate, you went out and tried a few things which is how you learn. You caught some fish and now you know what not to do next time…. I bought my boat and thought it would be easy but it’s not, a whole new set of things to learn but you have some fun on the journey. good luck on your next venture 🤞😊 Mark82
Malc
Well done, but you have to remember that if it was easy everyone would be doing it. When we fished the eddystone areas we did a variety of different tactics, close in to the pinnacles we drifted with sandeel or king rag on long flowing traces for pollock and bass or when the tide slackened we anchored or drifted for ling or conger with big fish baits. However some of the best fish I have seen were caught closer in on reefs or across smaller wrecks for pollock cod and ling or the scours for turbot and bass, I don't have the old admiralty chart as we lost it some years ago which shows how you didn't need all the electronic gear, though I wouldn't be without it now. mike farrants
don't be too hard on yourself - you got out, you caught fish and you got back in safely! that's a result - its all part of learning! Mark82
mike farrants
Saw on another group that someone else was out at the eddystone and didn’t have much. Maybe just the small tides this weekend! Mark82
