Haha you know me too well , we went down to Netley Abbey, chucked the anchor over and had some lunch, didn't have that long but just wanted to get out. Handled ok, bit rocky when the ferry's went past but got up to about 15 knots, moves pretty well actually and seems easy to handle Saintly Fish

I'm wondering whether the throttle cable has corroded and is binding up inside the sheath. If so, the best cure would be cable replacement but you might get away with plenty of lube and regular use. andyO

Yeah my first thought was something similar, I usually use a silicone spray grease. After a search today online most people do say not to lube the wrong parts as this can cause more issues so I'm going to have to watch a tutorial I think Saintly Fish

It was used right up till the day I picked it up but as it was so cheap I was keen to view it running and then just take it away before he realised it was a steal lol. My gut instinct is that it's gunked up so may just spray away and see what happens. The throttle while in neutral is free and smooth as is reverse, its literally just when you accelerate forward so I'm wondering if it could be the linkage. I just dont want to start taking things apart and making it worse

If you're set on lube, perhaps try some penetrating spray first to see if that frees it off. If it does improve the throttle travel it will at least tell you that corrosion is the issue. If that's the case I'd be tempted to replace the cable. Corrosion will mean the cable strands have weakened and you don't want it to let you down at sea. andyO

Then operate the throttle with it disconnected to see if it is still stiff, if yes, then carefully inspect the cable run for cable damage, kinks, and sharp bends. It could be the side remote causing the issue, but that is very unusual, to test it, disconnect the throttle cable at the remote and then operate the throttle to check for stiffness. Some side remotes are PITA to pull apart, and you need six pairs of hands for reassembly. It is really a matter of elimination, however, if you identify the cable as stiff, then don't mess about, just replace it. suzook12
As it moves freely in everything except forward, sounds like a linkage issue, the throttle usually cant fully open until it's in gear tho, so could be last part of the cable. Some cables are teflon coated, and you should never spray those as the coating swells making any issue worse....... I know this from experience!! andyO

Ah yeah this is what I was reading, having said that the engine is 1970's so god knows how old the steering system is. From what I see you should just grease the remote module first and see what a difference it makes

Wolv Gar
I did not want to start a new "Microplus 461 thread" as i think the specialists already gathered here. I am looking at one tomorrow and may take it with me as a new owner. It will only stay with me for a period of transition till i find my dream boat :'D. What do i have to look at specifically for when checking a Microplus 461? Any flaws? Edited March 1, 2022 by Wolv Gar
